The team is scheduled to clash with Sizani Fruits and Vegetables today at White City.
A highly-placed source within the club yesterday said the team has lost 18 players so far. The boys are not happy because they have not been receiving their allowances since the beginning of the season.
“Saints have lost 18 players and more may be going because of non-payment of allowances by the team. The players’ motivation is at its lowest that is why the team is so inconsistent,” said the source who refused to be named.
Zimbabwe Saints coach Edmore Sibanda could not be drawn to comment on the allowances issue but confirmed that the team had lost players.
“My job is to coach the team not to focus on monetary issues. As such I cannot comment on that issue. You can ask the team’s leadership. However, I can confirm that I am left with 17 registered players after 13 of my players left and it is a dire situation although I am sure we will weather this storm and come up winners at the end of it all.”
“The motivation in camp is not at its best at the moment and after losing the Bantu Rovers game last weekend we lost another two players while the other 11 disappeared sometime back. I am, however, positive ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Sizani Fruits and Vegetables the team I have will get the job done as they are experienced and they understand the situation we are in and that they have to keep the ship afloat,” Sibanda said.
Zimbabwe Saints board member finance, Caleb Sengu professed ignorance on the whole issue.
“For the past week I have been away and have not heard anything but I was on the phone just now with Jabulani Chinyangarara, a member of the executive, but he did not say anything relating to losing players and all he spoke about was tomorrow’s game,” Sengu said.
Meanwhile, Emakhandeni Pirates assistant coach Dazzy Kapenya said his team had prepared well for their match against high-flying How Mine ahead of their clash at White City tomorrow.
“For this past week, we trained hard ahead of our match against second placed How Mine who have been playing very well. The fact that we lost our last match while How Mine convincingly won theirs would not count that much and I hope the boys will rise to the occasion especially since we will be playing at home,” Kapenya said.
