adminPledge 25 Club Zimbabwe, a club made up of High School and recent school leavers has set aside a fun filled day for its youthful donors, dubbed “Men splash”, this Saturday at National Blood Services Zimbabwe NBSZ Headquarters, Mazoe street North Belgravia.This fun-filled day is running under the theme “Donate blood save a life and leave a legacy”. Pledge 25 Club is a special club for young and healthy citizens who pledge to regularly donate safe units of blood at least 25 times in their lives. The primary aim being to allow for smooth transition from school donors in to safe adult donors thereby effortlessly creating a future pool of informed adult blood donors.
Pledge 25 Club is comprised of young blood donors who join as members between the ages of 16 to 21 years after they leave high school. These blood donors pledge to donate at least 25 times by the age of 30 years. The concept was borrowed from the idea of Peer Promoters who wanted to continue giving blood after leaving school and Zimbabwe was the first country to introduce this concept in 1994.
The club aims to promote blood donation among school leavers so that they continue to donate blood into adulthood . The concept which originated as “Pledge 25” evolved into a full membership club, promoting the value of saving lives by giving blood through active participation and healthy lifestyle choices.
The name “Club 25” was taken from the donors’ pledge to “give 25 blood donations”. — Tawanda Matanhire CL Writer.
