Sikhumbuzo Moyo in Plumtree Town
THE Plumtree magistrates’ court is today (Friday) holding a public awareness campaign to educate residents about the nationwide implementation of the Integrated Electronic Case Management System (IECMS).
The procession will start from the Plumtree courtyard heading into town where officials from the Judiciary Services Commission will be interacting with members of the public and also issue out explainer fliers, which are written in Tjikalanga, IsiNdebele and English.
The JSC introduced IECMS in the Magistrates Court in January this year and thereafter the program has been introduced in phases in each province.
Today’s event is part of plans set by the Judiciary Services Commission to digitise a total of 16 courts in Matabeleland South and Masvingo provinces, as it extends the coverage of the Integrated Electronic Case Management System IECMS countrywide.
So far, magistrates’ courts in Mashonaland Central and Matabeleland North went live on the digital platform at the beginning of July this year.
The initiative is part of the fourth phase of IECMS implementation and, among other things, will ensure these courts transition to a fully paperless environment, with electronic case filing and tracking now available to the public.
Once in operation, filing of cases will be done electronically, hearings will be conducted virtually and checking of case status will be done electronically through the system.
Some of the benefits of the system are that it encourages collaboration, there is increased operational efficiency and accountability. It saves time and transport costs, there is improved communication, transparency and a 24/7 service availability.
