A PLUMTREE-based drama group, Yebo Yes Performing Arts, will launch SamaVoe: The Heartbreaker – a movie which tackles migration issues. Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Andrew Langa, is expected to grace the launch to be held at Plumtree High School on Saturday.  In an attempt to educate people on socio-economic issues, Yebo Yes Arts Group produced the movie which tackles issues of safe migration at sites in Zimbabwe and Botswana.

The movie, which has a cast of seven people and about 25 extras, has its storyline based on SamaVoe, a married but unemployed man.
His wife resorts to travelling to Botswana illegally where she buys goods for resale but is raped on her way and contracts HIV which she passes on to her husband.

SamaVoe later becomes promiscuous and infects several other women including a Form 3 pupil that he impregnates.
Director of Yebo Yes Performing Arts, Brighton Professor Sibanda, said they would be showing the movie for the first time at the launch.
“Although we faced a number of challenges especially in sourcing funds, we are proud to have carried out this project which cost us $10,000.
“The issue of safe migration has not been fully explored in terms of theatre and I believe this movie will be of great interest to many people,” he said.
Sibanda said the movie also tackled socio economic challenges affecting youths.

“The play focuses on the social and economic issues that affect not only Kalanga youths but people from other surrounding areas. It tackles issues to do with child abuse, abortion and polygamy as well as HIV/Aids,” he said.

Sibanda said it was disheartening that it was now a culture that youths neglect their studies and run off to neighbouring countries in search for jobs.
“It is not only youths who run off to neighbouring countries but even married people who are desperate for jobs engage in border jumping thereby putting their lives at risk,” he said.
Yebo Yes Arts Group operates under the Youth Edutainment Services Trust which is a youth organisation whose main goal is to provide information through entertainment.
The drama group has in the past been holding plays within schools and the community of Plumtree in an attempt to educate people on socio-economic issues.
