Plumtree introduces CBD parking fees

Sukulwenkosi Dube-Matutu, Plumtree Correspondent
PLUMTREE Town Council is set to introduce parking fees in the border town’s Central Business District (CBD) starting in February 1.

In an interview acting Town Secretary, Mr Elvis Maphosa said motorists will pay 50 cents for parking in the CBD for 30 minutes.

He said the introduction of the parking fees was in line with the council’s 2017 budget.

Mr Maphosa said the paid parking system will apply along Kingsway, Dombodema, Commonage and Thekwani Roads.

“Our 2017 budget of $5 million include revenue from parking fees,” he said.

Mr Maphosa said parking discs will be bought from council offices and there will be council officers moving around the CBD selling the discs and issuing tickets to offending motorists.

He said a reserved parking area was going to be created for motorists who work within the CBD and they will pay a fixed parking fee.
