A BULILIMA man who went missing after going for treatment at a local clinic was found dead near his homestead.
Forty-five-year-old Tinaye Khupe from Nyele area had been missing for days when his body was found in a bushy area.
Neighbours said Khupe left his homestead on Thursday last week proceeding to a clinic after complaining of a toothache.
He did not return to his homestead and his body was discovered five days later in a bushy area close to his homestead.
A police source said Khupe was found dead on Tuesday afternoon but his body did not have any scars.
The source said investigations were still being carried out to ascertain the cause of his death.
Headman Mzwanyana said Khupe’s death was a mystery.
He said villagers suspected he was attacked by goblins.
Headman Mzwanyana said Khupe’s relatives planned to engage the services of a traditional healer.
The councillor for Nyele area, Emmanuel Moyo, said according to family members Khupe complained of a toothache and travelled to the clinic alone.
Moyo said Khupe did not return to his homestead but was seen by villagers roaming around the community.
“Khupe was first seen by his niece after he had gone missing for a day. She told him that everyone was looking for him but he insisted that he had to escape from the village as some “short” people were hunting him down and he fled from his niece.
“From there he went to his neighbour’s homestead and told them that there were mysterious people who were hunting him down. They tried to convince him to return to his homestead but he fled from the house,” said Moyo.
Moyo said Khupe said that the people who were hunting him down would ambush him at his home if he went there.
He said he received news from villagers that Khupe’s body had been discovered by passersby.
He said when he attended the scene villagers were gathered in a bushy area near Khupe’s homestead.
“Khupe’s body did not have any scars on it to show that he could have been murdered. His body was just lying there on the ground and there were no signs of a struggle.
“People considered the state in which they found Khupe and the allegations he was making that there were mysterious people who were after him and concluded that he might have been attacked by goblins,” said Moyo.
