PLUMTREE Town Council has mobilised $150 000 to repair its offices that were damaged by a storm that hit the area last year.
The building was damaged in December and property worth $300 000 was lost.
In an interview last week, Plumtree Town Secretary Mr Davies Luthe said renovations have started and are expected to be done by the end of this month.
“No serious injuries were reported during the incident but properties were destroyed. These include handsets, desktops, laptops, printers, benches, office tables and chairs and we are currently doing renovations,” he said.
Meanwhile, the local authority has managed to drill boreholes in every ward in a bid to reduce water challenges faced by Plumtree Town residents.
The town relies on water pumped from Mangwe District, more than 60 kilometres away.
“We had a project of drilling boreholes in every ward and I am excited to say we managed to finish the project in time and we now have six boreholes, one in each ward. I hope the development will go a long way in alleviating water shortages in the area,” said Mr Luthe.
Public relations officer Mrs Grace Moyo said the council also managed to install six mortars, six water pumps and a generator to enable flexibility of water pumping.
