Cde Mazikana said the PM’s conduct did not reflect that of a reputable leader.
He was debating a motion on the Presidential speech delivered by President Mugabe when he officially opened the Fifth Session of the Seventh Parliament last month.
Zanu-PF Chief Whip Cde Joram Gumbo moved the motion soon after the President’s speech.
Said Cde Mazikana: “If one aspires to be a leader, they should be able to manage their private life.
If you cannot manage your private life it will be difficult for people to vote for you. A reputable leader should be able to control chiuno chake.”
Cde Mazikana said PM Tsvangirai, who is also the MDC-T leader, was supposed to emulate other leaders rocked by sex scandals. He said democracy that PM Tsvangirai and his party preached about demanded that he resigned for his scandal.
“In America, the head of CIA (Central Intelligence Agency David Petraeus) resigned because of a sex scandal.
“The same thing happened with Dominique Strauss-Kahn who was the managing director at the International Monetary Fund. He resigned because of the sex scandal. We therefore expect people of good repute, people who can control themselves panyaya yepachiuno to aspire to be leaders of the country,” said Cde Mazikana drawing applause from Zanu-PF legislators.
However, MDC-T MPs kept interjecting while Cde Mazikana was speaking saying someone’s private life had nothing to do with their leadership aspirations. PM Tsvangirai had a series of salacious sex escapades in the past few years that were exposed when he planned to marry Ms Elizabeth Macheka.
The premier was linked with several women among them Locardia Karimatsenga whom he customarily married in November last year and another South African Ms Nosipho Regina Shilubane whom he had promised to marry. Some of the women linked with PM Tsvangirai since his wife Susan died in a car crash in 2009 are Loreta Nyathi by whom he sired a son, Arikana Chihombori and Aquilina Pamberi among other women.
Mr Tsvangirai agreed for an out of court settlement for maintenance with Ms Karimatsenga amid indications that he paid her a once off US$300 000.
His marriage circus threatened to tear apart the faction-ridded party when some officials questioned his suitability to lead their party.
Political and social commentators also said the revelations about PM Tsvangirai’s messy sex life had dented his chances of being a reputable leader.
