Mr Elisha Singano slapped Norman Mangirazi of Washaya Village under Chief Chireya with a five-year jail term for possession of the elephant tusks.

He further imposed a one-year jail term for possession of an unlicensed rifle.

Authority rangers were carrying out anti-poaching patrols when they received a tip off.

They swooped on Mangirazi’s homestead and recovered an unregistered 303 rifle together with two pairs of elephant tusks weighing 11,8 kg hidden in one of his rooms. Mangirazi was arrested while he was looking for buyers. The elephants were suspected to have been killed in the Matusadonha Game Park.
