Bulawayo-based poet Dr Gasolo will on Thursday morning leave his rural Matshetsheni Village in a gruelling 250-kilometre walk to Bulawayo as he yearns to see the creative sector as a viable economic sector.
The walk is to tell the world the creative industries need support to survive and flourish.
Along the way, Dr Gasolo will explain his dream to whoever he comes across on other pressing societal problems.
These include drug and substance abuse, which is threatening future generations, and mental health issues, which daily claim the lives of troubled souls.
On day two, the march continues from Gwanda to Esigodini, before moving to Bulawayo Metropolitan on the third day.
Dr Gasolo said he is fit and ready for the task and is grateful for the support the walk has drawn each year.
“l can safely say that I am prepared, as I have made sure that I am physically and mentally fit. The support each year is growing, a sign that people are hearing the message and l hope they will put that to practical use. I have received cases of water, T-shirts and reflective vests for the journey with pledges of food along the way and a massage to ease the pain,” said Dr Gasolo.
