Poets to mark special day

He said the workshop, which was open to poets throughout the country, will begin on 21 March and end with the World Poetry celebrations on the 24th. “The World Poetry celebrations are held annually on 21 March but we deliberately moved the celebrations to the

24th which will be a Saturday when many poets are free to attend,” said Nyoni.
Nyoni appealed to poets from all corners of the country to take advantage of the workshop to sharpen their skills.

He said both up-and-coming and established poets were free to attend the workshop. “The workshop is open to up-and-coming poets who include school pupils as well as established poets who are expected to share their experiences with up-and-coming poets,” he said.
Nyoni also said the workshop would be divided into two segments. The first part would focus on the art of writing while the second part is meant to equip poets with skills of earning a living from poetry just like other arts. He said artists, who included poets, could only earn a living from their talents if these talents were developed.

Nyoni said there was therefore need to provide resources to sharpen skills of poets through workshops such as the one planned for next month if the poets’ talents were to be recognised.
