INFORMATION Communication Technology (ICT) Company, Bethel Communications has introduced a new way of making payments for smart phone users. The point of sale swipe gadget is compatible with any smartphone and all card holders from different banks can use it.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing last week at their Astro Shop branch in Bulawayo, the sales manager Mr Robert Chiwara said as a company they were determined to make a positive contribution to the resuscitation of industry in Bulawayo.

“We believe in the industrial sector of the city and that if we work together we will make a positive change and contribute to its revival,” he said.

He said they came up with the point of sale gadget which can be used on any smartphone to make payments, as way of complimenting the informal sector.

“We are providing a payment solution whereby anyone can swipe their card and make a payment through their smartphones.
“We came up with the idea to support small entrepreneurs and vendors so that they can manage to accommodate bank card holders who buy from them,” he said.

Mr Chiwara said they are going to give players in the informal sector the swipe gadgets for free as a way of supporting them.
“The point of sale swipe gadget will give opportunity to bank card holders to make payments without having to go and withdraw money from the Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

“All they have to do is to swipe their card in the gadget whether they are buying from a tuck-shop, vendor or someone selling on the street as long as the seller has a smartphone and the swipe gadget,” he said.

Mr Chiwara said the gadget was connected to a bank and when one swiped, it reflected the amount of money in an account and provided options for one to punch in the amount they wanted to pay.

“The gadget is connected straight to the bank and if one pays, immediately a message from the bank is sent to one’s phone,” he said.
Mr Chiwara said the process was 100 percent safe as no information was left on the phone.
