Primary Schools Merit awards ceremony in Harare yesterday, Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri said the force’s Victim Friendly Unit would “drill” various aspects of abuse at school and at home.
“I am reliably informed that in pursuance of this year’s theme which reads: ‘ZRP and all creating child-friendly schools for total development’, the section has vigorously campaigned for zero tolerance against child abuse,” he said.
Several children and ZRP primary schools were honoured by Comm-Gen Chihuri for producing outstanding results last year.
Comm-Gen Chihuri said the ZRP schools produced the best results in 2010 in academic and sporting disciplines.
“We take pride in that ZRP schools are now a force to reckon with in the achievement of quality education in Zimbabwe,” he said.

“The ZRP schools are not only doing well in academic circles, but are also doing extremely well in extra-mural activities.”
Comm-Gen Chihuri said in 2010, Support Unit Primary School did well by attaining the second position in traditional dance in Harare.
He said in 2009, the force’s schools attained an overall pass rate of 77 percent with 28 pupils garnering four units.
Comm-Gen Chihuri said last year, the schools attained an overall pass rate of 86 percent and 11 pupils attained four units.
“The decrease in the number of pupils producing four units is attributed to a drop in the pass rate of Shona,” he said.
“This did not only affect our schools. It was a national demise.”
Comm-Gen Chihuri commended the education sector for coming up with a variety of projects which were meant to improve the results from their schools.
“In the same vein, I want to urge all stakeholders in the education section to accept corrections and learn from these corrections so as to achieve excellent results,” he said.
Comm-Gen Chihuri commended the school development committees for playing crucial roles in the development of the schools.
“I implore you to set levies which are viable in order to provide quality resources which will help improve educational standards in all our schools,” he said.
Comm-Gen Chihuri urged the SDAs to work together with school administra- tors to ensure that teachers were well motivated.
“In our part we will continue to incentivise them with plain clothes allowance whenever funds permit,” he said.
