Police crackdown on touts continues

POLICE have intensified their crackdown on touts with a view to removing them from bus ranks.

About 78 touts have been arrested over the past three days in Harare.

On Heroes Day 28 touts were arrested, Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 23..Addressing transport operators and travellers in Mbare, officer commanding Harare province, Commissioner Maxwell Chikunguru warned touts over harassing, confusing and indescently assaulting travellers.

“As police, we are strongly warning touts verbally and physically assaulting travellers,” said Comm Chikunguru.

“There is no need for touts to confuse travellers at ranks as if they do not know where to board their transport to various destinations.

“Vabereki vanoziva kwavarikuenda saka mahwindi hativade pamaRanks.

“Police will continue to arrest anyone caught touting at ranks and there is no option of paying fines.

“We will take them to court for prosecution,” said Comm Chikunguru.

Last week, 143 touts were arrested  and taken to court.

The arrests followed a recent rape case involving a Grade 7 learner in a parked Kombi along Rezende Street in the Central Business District in broad day light.
