Police exhume remains of secretly buried 1-year-old Marondera child

POLICE in Marondera have exhumed the body of a one-year-old child who was secretly buried last Friday by her parents after she allegedly succumbed to injuries sustained when her parents were engaged in a nasty fight.

Reports are that the child was strapped on her mother’s back during the fight. Allegations are that after realising the child had been injured, the duo decided to visit a traditional healer who failed to heal her.

The child later died and the parents went on to secretly bury her alongside a riverbank.

Acting on information from the public over the issue, police officers reacted and arrested the parents, who are now assisting with investigations.

The police are now treating the issue as a “suspected murder case.”

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

“Police in Marondera are investigating a case of suspected murder, which occurred in Cherutombo, on August 6, 2021 where a couple (20 and 41) secretly buried their daughter (one year) along Ruzawi River.

“The remains of the deceased have been exhumed and we are waiting for postmortem results.”
