Police gears up for Easter Holiday

operation code-named “Safe Easter Holiday”, will ensure sanity prevails on the roads.
Under the operation, police are targeting vehicles without registration number plates and not authorised to ferry passengers.
These vehicles include Toyota Ipsums, Toyota Gaias and Mitsubishi Chariots, among others.
Insp Chigome said some of the unregistered vehicles were used to commit crimes and they will impound them.
“Some can also be involved in accidents especially hit and run and it would be difficult to trace them. Others are also being used for robbery on unsuspecting hitchhikers,” he said.
Insp Chigome urged people to desist from boarding non public service vehicles.
He said most of the vehicles are not insured to ferry passengers.
“People should also avoid boarding over-loaded vehicles and once we find any such vehicles, we will make sure that people will disembark and are refunded their money,” Insp Chigome said.
The force, in conjunction with Traffic Safety Council, will also carry out awareness campaigns countrywide to educate the motoring and travelling public of road safety.
He urged the people to fully corporate during this period. Insp Chigome also said the force does not condone any forms of corruption and urged the public to report such cases or call on (04) 703631 and (04) 799269.
Recently, Traffic police officers were urged to continue executing their duties diligently without fear or favour.
Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri commended officers especially in the city for their visibility and vigilance.
