POLICE are still actively searching for fugitive Mthandazo Sibindi, a 42-year-old man who has been on the run since 2018.
He is accused of fatally shooting his nephew, Trymore Sibindi, on suspicion that he was having an inappropriate relationship with his wife.
The tragic incident occurred in Zhombe when Trymore, then 27, returned from a night out at Python Business Centre in Silobela and found his wife missing from their bedroom, which sparked a confrontation.
In a fit of rage, Mtandazo allegedly shot Trymore, leading to his untimely death.
Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the Midlands police spokesperson, appealed to the public for assistance.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information that might lead to the arrest of a 42-year-old man who has been on the run since 2018 after allegedly shooting dead his nephew following a misunderstanding,” he stated.
The incident has left a lasting impact on the community. Trymore’s family continues to seek justice while Mtandazo remains elusive, evading capture for seven years.
Insp Mahoko emphasised the importance of community involvement in solving this case.
In a separate but equally troubling matter, police are searching for Tatenda Marinda, a 25-year-old man who fled after allegedly killing his two-year-old son, Tanatswa, on June 17, 2025.
The incident unfolded when Tatenda noticed his son’s health deteriorating.
“He was continuously crying out in pain,” said Insp Mahoko. Taking Tanatswa outside under the pretext of comforting him, Tatenda vanished with the child.
The next morning, his wife discovered that both were missing, prompting a search party. Tragically, the search led to the discovery of Tanatswa’s body in a nearby gully while Tatenda was nowhere to be found.
Insp Mahoko underscored the urgency of locating Tatenda to assist with ongoing investigations, appealing for any information that could lead to his arrest.
Additionally, authorities are on the lookout for Nyasha Chaza, 29, who is wanted for allegedly attempting to kill his girlfriend, Phumuzile Kufaulele, by setting her house on fire on June 16.
The couple had been seen arguing earlier that day, with Chaza reportedly threatening to injure her.
Upon arriving at Phumuzile’s residence at Empress Business Centre, Chaza locked the door from the outside, poured petrol and ignited the flames.
She was seriously burned as she attempted to escape. Phumuzile was rushed to Kadoma Hospital where she is receiving treatment for her injuries.
Insp Mahoko has reiterated the importance of community involvement in these cases.
“We are informing the public that we are still looking for him and we appeal for information that might lead to his location and arrest,” he stated.
The police believe that with the community’s help, they can bring these suspects to justice and provide closure to the affected families.
The ongoing investigations highlight the critical role that the public can play in aiding law enforcement.
As these cases unfold, the police remain committed to ensuring safety and justice within the community.
