THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has impounded about 65 illegal pirate taxis in Marondera during a two-day blitz under an operation code-named, “No to mushikashika and plateless vehicles”.
Superintendent Jasper Manyanhaire, who is responsible for Administration in Marondera district, urged those who want to venture into the transport business to fulfill all the requirements before operating.
“We conducted an operation, “No to mushikashika and plateless vehicles”. During this operation, we managed to impound 65 vehicles for various offences which include unroadunworthiness.
“As ZRP, we urge the public to desist from using mushikashika but use registered public transport vehicles.”

Zimbabwe Republic Police officers with some of the vehicles impounded during the “No to mushikashika” blitz in Marondera.
Supt Manyanhaire said of late, the police have been receiving cases of robbery and kidnapping involving pirate taxis.
“This is the other reason we are targeting these vehicles. In other areas, some of these mushikashikas are used by cattle rustlers for transporting carcasses from various areas, especially in Marondera and Hwedza. We have since arrested those involved,” he said.
“So we are saying those who want to be in the transport business should properly register and license their vehicles so that they will not face any challenges.”.
Sup Manyanhaire said the police will continue to maintain a presence on the ground to ensure peace and order.
