POLICE are treating the deaths of four people in Binga as murder and thorough investigations are under way to bring the culprits to book, national police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said yesterday.
In a statement Snr Asst Comm Charamba said none of the victims had been identified and there were no arrests yet as investigations continue.
She, however, said cartridges of an AK-47 rifle, a Motorola handset and some papers were recovered at the scene.
She said police were treating the matter as murder as the purported accident was allegedly stage-managed.
“We confirm receiving a report of a suspected murder case that occurred at Ngongonye Bridge, Binga on January 6. Circumstances are that a report of a road traffic accident involving an Isuzu twin cab was reported.
“Police discovered one male adult lying dead on the riverbed covered by the vehicle’s loading box. Another dead body of a female was found in the front cab while a third body of a male adult was in the back seat of the same vehicle. All the three bodies had gun shot wounds on their heads.”
Police said the fourth body was found hours later at 2.10pm in a nearby maize field about 1, 5km from the scene, decapitated.
“Initial investigations and leads found so far indicate that the accident could have been stage-managed to cover up for a murder case. Investigations are in progress and the matter is being treated as murder,” said Snr Asst Comm Charamba.
