POLICE have launched a manhunt for a man believed to have killed a 38-year-old taxi driver from Esigodini after which he disappeared with the victim’s vehicle, a Honda Fit.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Chief Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the development saying Nhlanganiso Nkala is believed to have been killed by a man who had hired him on 15 March.
Chief Insp Mangena said Nkala was in the company of his wife when a man approached them and asked for a taxi to Falcon College.
Nkala left his wife to transport the man but he never returned home.
“On 15 March 2021 at 10pm Nhlanganiso Nkala who was driving his black Honda Fit plate number AEL 5151 in the company of his wife, Merjury Moyo, was hired by the suspect to transport goods to the Falcon College area.
“Nkala is said to have dropped off his wife to accommodate the client and his goods. He never returned home, prompting his wife to make a missing person report to which the police responded by launching a search. His car was discovered at an accident scene in Bulawayo on 16 March 2021 where the suspect is reported to have fled the scene,” said Chief Insp Mangena.
Nkala’s body was found dumped four days later in the Falcon College area.
“On 20 March 2021 Nkala’s body was found about 100 metres from the Falcon College area with three deep cuts on the head and multiple cuts on the face, showing that he had been murdered by the person who had hired him.
“The body was taken to Esigodini District Hospital for a post-mortem and investigations of a suspected murder are currently in place. The suspect is still at large,” said Chief Insp Mangena.
She also appealed to members of the public who might have any information about the incident to approach their nearest police station.
