Police nab two women suspected to have poisoned boyfriend

A LOWER Gweru woman and her friend have been arrested after they allegedly connived to kill her boyfriend through food poisoning.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred on Saturday last week in Lower Gweru under Chief Sogwala.“The circumstances are that on Saturday last week, the now deceased, Kholisani Mpofu (37) was invited for dinner by his girlfriend, Letina Chikanda. The two then arranged that they will meet at the homestead of Chikanda’s friend for supper,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said while at the friend’s homestead, Mpofu was given a meal but collapsed soon after eating the food.
“Soon after collapsing, some froth started coming out of Mpofu’s mouth. On realising this, Chikanda and her friend, Vistas Nkomo, tried to render some first aid on Mpofu but he died on the spot,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said Chikanda and Nkomo took Mpofu’s body and dumped it at a nearby bush.
He said the two have since been arrested in connection with suspected murder.

“Mpofu’s body was discovered by a passer-by who reported the matter to the police. Police attended the scene and took Mpofu’s body to Gweru Provincial Hospital mortuary,” he said.
