POLICE in Zimbabwe this week arrested a man who was found in possession of 12 Eswatini passports and is suspected to be part of a syndicate that illegally acquires travel documents in the Southern African Region.
According to police sources the man, whose name has been withheld as investigations are still ongoing, was apprehend as part of ongoing investigations on the alleged syndicate.
It is alleged that the syndicate was using proceeds from the operation to travel to Ireland.
“When the suspect was arrested he was found with 12 passports, among which there was one that belonged to an 86-year-old and all the passports were from the Kingdom of Eswatini. When he was arrested he was trying to put entry stamps to facilitate travel from South Africa.
“In his mobile phone he was found with WhatsApp chats from a foreign phone number saved under the name Style Simba. The chats implied that his clients were now long overdue to travel and urgently required these passports,” reads a police statement.
The police said they suspect that the syndicate operates with Zimbabweans that want to travel to Ireland and use the falsified travel documents to claim asylum in the European nation
