Police officer in dock for fuel theft

A Police officer stationed at Bulawayo Central Police Station appeared before a Western Commonage magistrate for allegedly siphoning 120 litres of diesel from a parked truck.

It is alleged that a truck driver Timoth Gift Kadyamusuma (36) parked his vehicle at around 9PM near his home in Nkulumane suburb and slept in it. When he woke up at 3AM on the following day he tried to start his vehicle but failed, the court heard.

He checked the fuel gauge and got the shock of his life when it read empty.
In utter disbelief, he disembarked from the truck to check the fuel tank and discovered that the cap had been removed and it was empty.

He reported the incident at Nkulumane Police Station. At around 6AM on the same day he noticed fuel drops on the ground leading to Macmillian Moyo’s house and quickly informed police officers.

Detectives pounced at Moyo’s house and recovered 90 litres of diesel leading to his arrest.
It was later discovered Moyo was an officer based at Bulawayo Central Police Station.

Moyo appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube facing a theft charge and pleaded not guilty.

He was represented by his lawyer Task Vhiki of Macharaga Law Chambers. Moyo was granted free bail and was remanded out of custody to 8 December for commencement of trial.
