SENIOR Assistant Commissioner Stephen Mutamba confers the rank of Chief Inspector on Busani Mguni at a ceremony at Ross Camp in Bulawayo yesterday

SIX police officers in Bulawayo and eight in Masvingo were yesterday conferred with badges after elevation from the rank of inspectors to chief inspectors.The Officer Commanding Police in Bulawayo, Senior Assistant Commissioner Stephen Mutamba presided over the conferment ceremony at Ross Camp while the Officer Commanding Masvingo Senior Assistant Commissioner Munorwei Shava Matutu presided over the ceremony in his province.
Among the promoted in Bulawayo was a female police officer and five males. In Masvingo, provincial police spokesperson Chief Inspector Peter Zhanero was among the promoted together with Buckinson Dodzo, Naboth Nyachega, Bonginkosi Janjure, Greatman Chichera, John Mazanhi, Paul Chimuriwo and Manos Masiyandima.
In a speech read on his behalf by Snr Asst Comm Mutamba, Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri congratulated Zimbabweans for keeping peace and challenged the police to effectively carry out their duties to help the growth of the nation.
He said, “The newly commissioned Zim-Asset will drive the tourism as well as agricultural sectors. These will do well in a crime free society and it is up to the police to ensure this.”
Snr Asst Comm Mutamba said the promoted officers would be manning different stations and were expected to discharge their duties diligently and instil discipline into their charges.
“The promoted officers should man their stations professionally and help fight crime. Those who operate near the borders should forge linkages with their counterparts from the other side of boarders to fight crime. We also expect them to instil discipline into the juniors,” Snr Asst Comm Mutamba said.
