POLICE in Matabeleland North have completed a course in foreign languages to improve their communication skills ahead of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) 20th general assembly. The UNWTO being co-hosted by Zimbabwe and Zambia will be held between Saturday and Thursday next week in Victoria Falls and Livingstone.

In an interview yesterday, Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese said 55 police officers participated in the course.

“We decided to embark on a foreign language course that will enable easy communication with our visitors during the UNWTO general assembly. We had planned to train 72 but we are happy that 55 successfully completed the course,” said Asst Insp Makonese.

She said the officers managed to learn the basics of three languages, French, Spanish and Russian.
UNWTO has 155 member countries and its membership includes six associate members and more than 400 affiliate members representing the private sector, educational institutions, tourism associations and local tourism authorities.
