THE Ruwa community has been commended for partnering with police in fighting crime.
Officer Commanding Harare Province, Commissioner, Wonder Tembo, noted with concern a surge in criminal activities in the suburb, in the past six months.
He said this at the official opening of a Ruwa Police Base, donated by a local businesswoman, Tsambica Bakkaris.
“I salute your individual and collective efforts, zeal and love, towards our province in particular, and the organisation at large,” said Comm Tembo.
“Amid the ever-rising crime vis-a-vis our debilitating critical shortage of resources, we continue to bank on your unwavering support.
“Had it not been for your unwavering support, our province would not have reached this far.”
The police base was established due to a rapid increase in criminal activities in Ruwa in the last six months.
“Ruwa Police registered a total of 1 970 criminal cases for the half-year ending 30 June 2022 compared to 1 634 for the same period in the year 2021.
“This translates to an average increase of 14.3 percent, which the station is frantically fighting to bring to the bottom ebb.
“It is pleasing to note that the station is investing much in building fruitful crime-combating synergies with the local community.
“The milestone achievement before us today is clear testimony to the fruitfulness of such synergies,” said Comm Tembo.
He encouraged the entire Ruwa community to continue partnering with the police in every way possible to ensure a crime free society.
