POLICE have once again warned people to avoid being lured into social media investment scams being posted on Facebook pages and WhatsApp groups.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, made the call amid a wave of similar cases being investigated around the country.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns the public against responding to social media investment scams on platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp.

“Police are currently investigating reports of criminals who are using social media sites to dupe unsuspecting members of the public,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

In one of the reported cases, a Deputy Minister lost US$850 after he was lured into depositing money into a fraudster’s account following an advert posted on social media.
