possibilities but they had no leads.
Mashonaland West police spokesperson Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed that the matter was complex and investigations were still in progress.
At the centre of the mystery is the fact that the head was in an advanced state of decomposition which makes it difficult to determine the sex of the body and origin of the head.
“We are still carrying out our investigations with little by way of leads and we are working in collaboration with other experts to see how best they can assist us piece the puzzle together,” he said. The torso has not yet been discovered and the head was still at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
The head of the person was found being eaten by a dog at a dumpsite at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital this week on Sunday and mystery surrounds how it ended up at the dumpsite. There are also questions on the whereabouts of the other part of the body. On the day, a resident at the hospital saw a dog with what looked like a human head at around 8am while passing through the dumpsite and went closer to investigate.
He discovered that it was indeed the head of a person and he alerted others who then made a report at Chemagamba police station.
Police attended the scene and found a head that was in an advanced state of decomposition making it difficult to ascertain the sex of the dead person.
Police tried to look at their missing persons list to see if they could establish a match but there were no positive leads so far.
