Police target vehicles without number plates

POLICE have launched a nationwide crackdown on vehicles that do not have registration plates, including Government cars.

All such vehicles will be impounded and will only be released after the completion of the necessary regularisation process.

So far, hundreds of vehicles have been impounded across the country as a result of the ongoing blitz.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed this and said he will soon issue a statement regarding the operation.

Recently, the police warned all motorists against driving unregistered vehicles, stating that doing so is a flagrant violation of the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act (Chapter 13:14).

They emphasised that the new measures apply to all types of vehicles, including those owned by families, companies, and Government departments.

The police indicated that their release will only be granted upon full compliance with registration laws.

Motorists have been advised to take this warning seriously, as the country reinforces its vehicle registration enforcement.

In 2022, more than 45 100 motorists were arrested for driving unregistered cars during a nationwide operation.
