A suspected armed robber was arrested over the weekend after a vehicle he had hijacked with his accomplices was involved in an accident in Harare.
The suspect, Tendai Gurupira (21 and his two accomplices hijacked the vehicle at the intersection of Chiremba and Tokwe Roads while the driver was attending to a tyre puncture.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident.
“On March 8, 2026, police in Harare arrested Tendai Gurupira, aged 21, in connection with a robbery case which occurred at the corner of Chiremba Road and Tokwe Road,” he said.
“The suspect, together with his two accomplices who are still at large, allegedly attacked a motorist who was attending to his Mercedes-Benz after it had developed a tyre puncture.
“Subsequently, the suspects reportedly jumped into the complainant’s vehicle and drove off at high speed.
“The complainant immediately called for assistance, leading to the apprehension of the suspect at the corner of Chiremba Road and Dunmore Road after he was involved in a road traffic accident.”
