POLICE in Bulawayo are embracing technology in the fight against crime, as they are set to incorporate the use of artificial intelligence in combating criminal activities. The incorporation of technology will fundamentally transform how law enforcement combats criminal activities in the city.
Bulawayo province police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, said artificial intelligence, predictive policing, social media forensics, and facial recognition are arming law enforcement with the tools they need to continue fighting crime in a digital era.
He said the fusion of hard and soft technologies will not only fortify preventative measures but also empower agencies to better understand, anticipate, and respond to emerging threats.
In the same vein, in a move aimed at increasing community involvement and fostering collaborative initiatives, the Police Church Partnership (PCPB) will officially be launched on October 1.
Inspector Ncube expressed enthusiasm for the forthcoming launch, highlighting the significance of this initiative in bolstering safety and security measures.
“We are cordially inviting you to the launch of the Police Church Partnership (PCPB) at the Large City Hall on 1 October at 1000 hours,” said Inspector Ncube.

He said one of the key components of the initiative is the deployment of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras throughout the Central Business District. Inspector Ncube said this strategic measure aims to safeguard public and private properties, in addition to managing traffic flow, particularly at intersections controlled by traffic lights.
Inspector Ncube emphasised the importance of leveraging technology to create a safer environment for all residents.
The launch event will feature a vibrant parade, showcasing various units within the police force and providing an opportunity for community engagement.
“We are going to hold a march featuring our horses, canine section, and drum majorettes, starting from Drill Hall and culminating at the Large City Hall. We welcome everyone to join us in the march and participate in the programme,” Inspector Ncube said.

Furthermore, the event will include exhibitions by private companies, as well as the Minerals and Fauna Unit from the Zesa division of security.
“These displays underscore the city’s commitment to embracing technological advancements in the fight against crime.
“The collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies, community organisations, and private sector entities demonstrate a unified front in addressing public safety concerns,” said Inspector Ncube.
He encouraged residents to attend the launch of the Police Church Partnership (PCPB) and actively engage in supporting the city’s ongoing efforts to create a secure and harmonious environment for all.
“Together, through partnership and innovation, we can build a safer future for our community,” said Inspector Ncube.
