Addressing political party representatives at a Jomic meeting here at the weekend, Police Assistant Commissioner Bobby Murwira said making a false report is a crime and people should respect the country’s laws.
“People should not just rush to make a report of unconfirmed and unsubstantiated claims of violence.
“We would like to warn people that parties do not commit crimes but individuals and if anyone commits crime in the name of the party they will be left to face the music on their own,” he said.
Speaking at the same event, Zanu-PF provincial chairman Cde John Mafa said political leaders from all parties in Mashonaland West province had committed themselves to preaching the message of peace.
“We don’t want violence in Mash West, because it is a peaceful province.

“People should desist from violence and making false claims of violence because it tarnishes the image of our province, the parties we represent and the country as a whole,” he said.
MDC-T representative Mr Tawanda Bvumo said people should accept the outcome of any election.
Jomic distributed copies of the Code of Conduct for Political Parties to which provincial chairpersons from Zanu-PF, MDC-T and MDC who said they would consult their leadership before endorsing it.
