POLICE have put on notice PHD Ministries leader Walter Magaya’s supporters, led by South Africa-based Albertina Saikonda, who have launched a campaign to raise US$200 000 allegedly meant to bribe judiciary officials.

In a statement, National Police Spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the police were monitoring the developments with keen interest to ensure effective maintenance of law and order as well as justice delivery.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns individuals and syndicates who have intensified efforts to interfere with and, in the process, defeat or obstruct the course of justice in the ongoing investigations and court appearance by PHD Ministries leader Walter Magaya. ZRP is fully aware of coordinated efforts by a team led by Albertina Saikonda, based in South Africa, to raise funds to the tune of US$200 000 or more in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Australia,” said Comm Nyathi.

He said investigations had revealed that the money was intended to be used to approach and compromise police investigators, prosecutors, magistrates and judges so as to derail the criminal investigations and court proceedings.

Comm Nyathi warned individuals, groups and associates involved in the alleged scheme that they would be arrested, saying the law would take its course without fear or favour.

“The police are monitoring what is happening with a very keen interest for the effective maintenance of law and order and justice delivery. All potential witnesses should report anyone dangling any form of offers or cash or promises to the police for swift action to be taken,” said Comm Nyathi.

He urged members of the public to report any attempts to interfere with the criminal proceedings through cellphone number 0776 830 226, the National Complaints number (0242) 703 631 or WhatsApp number 0712 800 197.
