The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced a nationwide crackdown on vehicles being driven without registration plates, warning that offenders will face immediate action in terms of the law.
In a statement issued on Monday, the police reaffirmed that all vehicles on public roads must display properly fitted registration plates as required under the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act (Chapter 13:14) and the Road Traffic Act (Chapter 13:11).
The move follows an increase in cases where suspects have allegedly used unregistered or plate-less vehicles, as well as vehicles with obscured number plates, to evade identification after committing crimes or traffic offences.
Police said some motorists deliberately remove registration plates or use bull bars to conceal them in an attempt to avoid detection after being involved in road traffic violations or accidents.
The ZRP warned that such practices undermine law enforcement and public safety, adding that motorists found driving vehicles without registration plates or with obscured plates will face immediate legal action.
The police urged all vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles comply with the country’s registration and licensing laws to avoid prosecution.
