Police warn pirate taxi operators

Police in Marondera have impounded 300 vehicles and arrested several people under an ongoing blitz on pirate taxi operators in the town and the whole of Mashonaland East.
ZRP Mashonaland East Assistant Commissioner for Operations Ezekiel Munengerwa said those arrested were driving without licenses, among other traffic-related offences.
He urged pirate taxi operators across the province to register their vehicles or stop operating illegally on the country’s roads.
Asst Commissioner Munengerwa said this during a press briefing held in Marondera yesterday where he was giving an update on the blitz.

He said police will not rest until sanity prevails and the safety of the commuting public is guaranteed.
“This is an ongoing operation and we will not rest until there is order and sanity on our roads,” he said.
“I want to urge mushikashika operators to stop operating. We will continue impounding their vehicles until they start abiding by the laws of the country.

“We are also urging the public to always use registered public transport to ensure their safety and stop using mushikashika.”
