Com Gen Chihuri said this on the sidelines of a police recruits send-off church service held at Morris Training Depot.
“We established a human rights training programme here at Morris Training Depot and all our provincial training centres in the country since 1994 have been doing it . . . so it is not something new to us.
“We were also assisted by the Human Rights for Southern Africa Trust (SAHRIT) which helps to train police officers throughout the Southern Africa region so all our laws are based on human rights laws,” he said.
Turning to the police recruits send-off, Com Gen Chihuri said Zimbabweans should safeguard their God-given national heritage and sovereignty that is under threat.
“The bible says we should not hate our heritage, God made us Zimbabweans because that was his purpose and plan for us, so we should make our plans as Zimbabweans, here in Zimbabwe.
“Most Zimbabweans who went to Britain around 2000 are not successful there because they defied God’s purpose and plan. God has a purpose for you here in Zimbabwe . . . he created you here so that when you were born everything was here for you,” he said.
Cde Chihuri urged people not to hate but to cherish what God bequeathed to them.
“I believe that God does not make mistakes, so we should be proud of being Zimbabweans and safeguard our heritage,” he said. The event was attended by senior police officers and some relatives of the recruits.
Cde Chihuri said from a biblical perspective, people should preserve their heritage. Cde Chihuri also encouraged the police recruits to emulate President Mugabe, who has remained steadfast on his principles.
“One can tell that from his youth President Mugabe was a man on a mission, who knew his purpose and plan for life” he said.
