POLICE have released the names of the four people who died when their hut caught fire in Zaka last Tuesday while calling for members of the public to assist with information that may help establish the cause of the inferno.

The victims were identified as Rhoda Mutumwa (90), of Zishamhu Village, Zaka and Rowai Dzimiri (66), Angelica Manyanga (9), Allan Manyanga (8) all of Manyanga Village in Zaka. The incident happened at about 11pm in Manyanga Village in which 90-year-old Mutumwa is believed to have visited her daughter Dzimiri when the fire broke out while they were sleeping.

In a statement, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said police have identified the victims of the inferno but what remained to be established was the cause of the fire. He said investigations were underway and called on members of the public who might have information to assist the police.

In a separate incident, police have urged the public to secure their dogs following the death of a seven-year-old boy who was mauled by vicious dogs on Wednesday at about 2pm in Norton.
