A POLICE officer stationed at Mutare Traffic was arrested after she was found with 100 grammes of dagga.

Constable Elda Pinduko was trapped through a phone call she made to Saymore Maramba of Chikanga, Mutare.

Maramba had been arrested for unlawful entry and theft cases.

Pinduko ran out of luck after she called Maramba, telling him that she had 100 grammes of dagga which was ready for collection.

Detectives followed through the conversation and with the assistance of Maramba, arranged a meeting with Pinduko.

They met Pinduko who was in possession of the dagga.

Pinduko recently appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Perseverance Makhala, for illegal possession of dagga.

She pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody to April 24 on $20 000 bail.

Ms Joyce Tinarwo prosecuted.

The court heard that on March 22, police from Chikanga arrested Maramba for unlawful entry and theft.

As the police were interviewing Maramba, his phone rang.

The police officers became suspicious and monitored the conversation.

“They realised that the person who was calling Maramba was a police officer. She revealed to Maramba in the conversation that she now had the ‘stuff’. The police officers established that the ‘stuff’ were drugs, but they could not ascertain the type of drug.

“They drove to Mutare Central Business District using Maramba’s car. Pinduko went to where Maramba and the police officers were parked and produced a plastic bag which was packed with dagga. Pinduko handed over the dagga to Maramba and she was arrested,” said Ms Tinarwo.

The mbanje weighed 102.2 grammes.
