ALL is set for the second round second round of polio vaccination targeting children below five years of age to be rolled out across Mutare and all the country’s border districts from tomorrow (Tuesday) to Friday.
The exercise is being spearheaded by City of Mutare’s health services department in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
The local authority’s principal communications officer Mr Charles Sadondo said recent polio outbreaks in neighbouring countries had necessitated the vaccination blitz.
“As a nation, we must work together to prevent the devastating effects of this disease through vaccination. Polio is a highly infectious disease with no cure. The only effective way to protect against polio is through multiple doses of the polio vaccine.
“All children aged zero to five years will receive their oral polio vaccination during this period. All routine vaccination will continue as usual,” said Mr Sadondo.
He added that the vaccination exercise will be held at homes and in public places.
“The vaccination will be conducted door-to-door in all households as well as bus stations, marketplaces, churches, schools, creches and other high-traffic public places,” he said.
Mr Sadondo called on the public to cooperate with in order to achieve the desired outcomes.
