THIS past weekend saw Round 5 of the Kart Sports club and ROK Cup Zimbabwe championships take place at the impressive Pole Position Karts at the National Sports Stadium.
The crowd witnessed some stand-out performances across all four classes and the adrenalin was pumping in all corners of the paddock.
The ultra-competitive Mini ROK class provided some of the most thrilling racing action during the day as Seth Rukato (Tonykart) and Eli Pilossof (Parolin) showed their skills with a very polished display of excellent race craft.
These two enjoyed epic battles throughout the day as they fought for podium finishes.
At the end of the day, Rukato took the overall win consolidating his championship lead, while Pilossof claimed 2nd place. Unfortunately, championship contender Yaseen Savania experienced a technical issue and had to sit out the day’s racing. Devin van de Linde had an excellent day competing with the front pack and gaining a good points haul in 3rd position. Young Eshaan Savania continues to improve with 4th position overall.
In the Kid ROK class for drivers aged 6 to 9 years old, Elroy Shamu (Kosmic), made a welcome return to the top step with a clean sweep of wins, placing him first overall for the day. Rayyan Savania (Tonykart) followed in a close 2nd position with both drivers digging deep and stepping up their game for Sunday’s race meeting.
Zack Staples had a solid day in third overall and kept his championship lead, albeit with a smaller margin.
Staples, Savania, and Shamu are now only separated by 8 points in the Kid ROK championship with one round to go.
Rookie driver, Jake Edwards (Kosmic) who is only 6 years old enjoyed an action-packed weekend in only his third race meeting and walked off the track with a 4th place.
In the 125 Rotax class, Zaydaan Savania (Ricardo) bounced back taking 2 wins, with both Jaedon Masiyanise (Kosmic Kart) and Tawana Shambare (Kosmic Kart) having technical issues in separate races which compromised their day’s points.
This paved the way for Zayaan Savania (Kosmic Kart) to gain his first podium position with second place and Deanne Savania who also finished on the podium in 3rd place.
Zaydaan Savania will be content to hold a 21-point lead over Masiyanise in the club championship with three rounds to go.
The ProKart class continues to show its popularity with a full grid of competitors racing the exciting Sodi 390cc karts. Showing incredible pace at times, the top three drivers, Moe Moosa, Shaun Chifamba, and Keron Lowe fought for podium positions all day long.
However, it was to be Lowe who took the top step of the podium with an overall win for the day.
While certain drivers stamped their authority on their respective title ambitions with victories and celebrations, others will have to wait for Round 6 on September 1 to reignite their challenge.
