Politburo meeting set for tomorrow

Harare Bureau
The Zanu-PF Politburo is expected to meet tomorrow at 9am at the party headquarters in Harare. Zanu-PF secretary for administration, Cde Ignatius Chombo confirmed the 291st meeting yesterday.

The last Politburo meeting was held last month and was followed by the Central Committee and the National Consultative Assembly meetings in the same week. At the last meeting, President Mugabe condemned land grabbing by people, some of whom were abusing the name of Zanu-PF in their shenanigans.

The Politburo mandated Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Minister Saviour Kasukuwere to restore sanity in the sector as it emerged that land barons had duped thousands of home-seekers by illegally selling and settling them on State and council land.

Minister Kasukuwere has not turned back since then as he has taken the initiative to have land barons prosecuted. At least 50 suspected land barons have appeared in court in the last few weeks with about 38 others being questioned by the police.

The last Politburo meeting also approved amendments to the Labour Act that was subsequently passed by Parliament and signed into law by President Mugabe.

The amended law is meant to create a win-win situation for both employers and workers.
