to discuss rules and regulations to guide the party’s primary elections ahead of the pending harmonised elections.
The rules are expected to stipulate who qualifies to represent the party in the local government, House of Assembly, Senate and Presidential elections.
The Politburo, Zanu-PF’s most powerful organ between congresses, is also expected to receive reports from the probe team that was sent to establish investigate problems bedevilling the party in Manicaland and Harare province.
From Harare province, the probe team is expected to descend on Masvingo and all other provinces.
“We will obviously discuss issues to do with the rules and regulations guiding the primary elections because time is not on our side,” Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo said yesterday.
“We also expect to receive reports of the team that went to Manicaland and Harare. We would also want to hear feedback of the mobilisation exercise that is going on throughout the country. Our message in mobilisation is that ‘Your Vote is your Voice’.”
Zanu-PF has embarked on a restructuring exercise of its structures that will see the team led by national chairperson Cde Simon Khaya Moyo touring all the provinces to get the views of party structures.
Other members of the team are national political commissar Cde Webster Shamu, Secretary for Security Cde Sydney Sekeramayi and Secretary for Administration Cde Didymus Mutasa.
The probe team was tasked with reviving the fortunes of the party in the provinces, a development that saw Politburo member Cde Callistus Ndlovu being appointed chairperson for Bulawayo province taking over from Cde Killian Sibanda who was redeployed to the deputy chairman’s position.
The team will travel to all the provinces to assess Zanu-PF’s state of preparedness ahead of the elections.
However, it is the rules and regulations guiding primary elections and the date for the primary polls that is expected to dominate deliberations.
President Mugabe has spoken out against the imposition of candidates in the coming elections and has urged party supporters to register as voters as the coming polls are crucial for the future of the country.
