Zanu-PF will hold its Politburo meeting today, which is likely to focus on the possible amendments to the party constitution and preparations for the forthcoming 6th National People’s Congress.
Secretary for Administration Cde Didymus Mutasa confirmed yesterday that the meeting will take place today, but refused to indicate its agenda.
“Yes, the Politburo meeting will take place tomorrow (today),” he said. “You can only get the details of what we would have discussed from Cde Khaya Moyo who is the acting spokesperson.”
Sources said the Politburo is likely to receive reports from provincial chairpersons regarding the accreditation process for congress delegates, which has been marred by confusions and some skirmishes in some districts.
The Politburo meets amid mounting pressure for Vice President Joice Mujuru to resign following allegations of corruption and plotting to assassinate President Mugabe.
War veterans, women and youths have called for the Vice President to resign before the December congress to avoid humiliation.
VP Mujuru is accused of fanning factionalism, corruption, demanding 10 percent shares from companies and abuse of office.
The Politburo meeting could not take place on its usual day on Wednesday because President Mugabe was attending a summit of leaders from Africa and Turkey which is focusing on agriculture and food security on the continent in Equatorial Guinea.
President Mugabe, who is the African Union First Deputy Chair, is expected to assume chairmanship of the bloc next year.
