The draft will be translated into indigenous languages while civic education is expected to be completed within a month.
The Copac Project Board met in Harare yesterday to discuss the remaining process before the Constitution-making process is completed.
The board comprises Copac management, Government and donors.
“We met today to look at the budgetary requirements of the remaining process and also the civic education that we are about to emabrk on.
“We have already started printing of materials that will be required during that process and we expect that we will be through in a week’s time and roll out the programme,” Copac co-chairman Cde Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana said.
His MDC-T counterpart Mr Douglas Mwonzora concurred, adding that civic education will be an opportunity to ensure Zimbabweans are not misled.
“We met to discuss the rollout of the programme and we expect it to start within the week. We want to make sure that Zimbabweans are not misled by unscrupulous individuals because this is their document and they deserve to know,” he said.
Chisipite Senator Obert Gutu told the Senate during debate that the important thing for Zimbabweans now was to promote constitutionalism.
“The need for us to support going forward is the culture of Constitutionalism because I think it is one of the major challenges we are facing as a nation,” he said.
“The document that we have is just about the best document that we could have had at this time.”
Masvingo Senator Maina Mandava expressed her pride at the unity of purpose shown during the three years of writing the draft Constitution.
“We are very proud of having been in the Constitution-making process and we are going to go down in history as having been there when the Constitution was written.
“The exercise was a unifying one. We shared food as members of the same family and our political differences were not showing,” she said.
Chief Ngungumbane thanked Copac for producing the Constitution despite the animosity that existed between the three parties in the inclusive Government.
“I want to thank Parliament for a job well done. It was not an easy task to bring three bulls into one kraal. This report reflects the unity of purpose and the oneness our political leaders have shown. The spirit of ubuntu/hunhu has shown and I want to say to our politicians; thank you for a job well done,” he said.
The completion of the Constitution-making exercise will lead to the conduct of election later in the year.
