SOUTH AFRICA – The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has welcomed the Polokwane High Court’s decision to dismiss an urgent application seeking to interdict the party’s provincial elective conference.
The court struck the matter off the roll on the grounds that it lacked urgency, with Judge Mashudu Tshivhase also ruling that the applicant, Basil Mabasa, had failed to exhaust all internal ANC dispute resolution mechanisms before approaching the courts.
Judge Tshivhase’s ruling clears the way for the provincial conference to proceed as planned. ANC provincial secretary Reuben Madadzhe said the leadership remains open to engaging with members who still have grievances.
“As the PEC of Limpopo, we are very much happy, we are delighted about the judgment, and we also want to appeal to our members that they also need to give their structure an opportunity to lead and to go into its conference and if there are issues that they want to raise with us, our doors are still open, we will listen to them.
We’ve got a responsibility as the leadership of the province to go closer to them and listen to them and attend to the matters that they’re raising.” – SABC News
