A BULAWAYO polygamist, who allegedly locked his first wife out of their Njube suburban home for three consecutive nights, has appeared in court facing contempt of court charges.
Makura Tima, 46, defied a court order granted to his wife, Dambudzo Masabu, in September last year barring him from hindering or blocking her from entering their house.
In the order issued on September 6, 2013, Tima was instructed not to prevent or block Masabu from entering the house.
Tima pleaded guilty and was remanded out of custody to today.
He told Bulawayo magistrate Themba Chimiso that he is no longer interested in their marriage, but did not give any reasons.
“I understand that what I did was wrong. However, I can’t continue living with this woman. I can’t wait until this order has expired,” said Tima.
Prosecuting, Kingston Mkanganwi told the court that Tima told his wife to find somewhere else to sleep after locking her out of the house.
“From August 9 to August 12, 2014, Tima barred Masabu from entering his house. He locked the door and told her to go and look for a place to sleep,” he said.
Mkanganwi said Masabu took the protection order and made a report to the police, leading to Tima’s arrest.
