A 20-year-old Bulawayo woman was arraigned before the courts last week for allegedly stealing her husband’s second wife’s documents in undisclosed circumstances.
Rudo Mataga allegedly stole Beauty Ngwenya’s passport and her baby’s birth record and card after sneaking into her bedroom at Ross Camp where Ngwenya lives with their husband who is a cop.
Mataga, who appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze on Friday facing theft charges, pleaded not guilty as she said she knew nothing about the missing documents.
“Your honour this woman is lying; I didn’t go to her house or steal the documents she alleges I stole. I deny these charges as they are fabrication to spoil my reputation,” said Mataga.
The state led by Charles Danda said that on February 12, Mataga, who resides in Nkulumane, went to Ngwenya’s house and headed straight to her bedroom.
It is alleged that, by then Ngwenya, 22, wasn’t at home as she had gone to town. Mataga took advantage of the situation and took her bag, tore it and stole her passport, Ngwenya’s child card and birth record and went away.
When Ngwenya returned from town, her niece informed her that Mataga had been in the house and had tampered with her bag. Of all the documents stolen, nothing was recovered.
Magistrate Msipa-Marondedze remanded Mataga out of custody to January 13.
