SOCCO Golden Stars commemorated their second anniversary in style with a carnival atmosphere permeating Mutare Showground as people from all walks of life turned in their numbers to witness a memorable social soccer showdown last Saturday.
With celebrated musician, Winky D’s Vigilance, hosts, Socco Golden Stars, Nato and Sisal storming into the semis, the stage was set for an unforgettable social soccer jamboree.
A determined Nato was edged 4-5 in the dreaded penalty lottery by Socco Golden Stars, while Sisal dismissed Vigilance 2-1.
The final encounter saw Socco beating Sisal 2-0.
The Ruramai Nyakonga-financed Socco Golden Stars administrator, Tatenda ‘Gede’ Matiringe, thanked the people of Mutare for coming out in their numbers, saying: “As Socco Golden Stars, we are truly humbled by the love and passion shown by the people of Mutare during our second anniversary tournament. To us, this is testament to our communities’ commitment to healthy lifestyles and a united fight against drug and substance abuse.”
Socco Golden Stars started their second anniversary festivities with a clean-up act in the city’s Central Business District and Showground last Friday before taking to the field of play the next day.
