ZIMBABWE’S representative at the 2024 R&A Junior Open, which is taking place at Kilmarnock (Barassie) Golf Club in Scotland, Braydon Amm had a poor start on round one of the tournaments which teed off yesterday.
Amm – who is one of the best junior golfers in the country – shot 10-over on his opening round. He carded a round one score of 82, however, he managed to make the cut. After round one, he is in position 41.
The Zimbabwean youngster is 12 shots behind the leader, Lawson Aidan from Scotland who carded two-under-70 in his first round. Aidan and second placed Edwin Sjodin from Sweden are the only two golfers who managed to shoot under-par scores on the first round.
Sjodin shot one-under-71 while four other golfers managed to level par on the first round.
Amm is among one of the best young talents from around the globe who were selected to compete in the biennial event, to which all golfing nations affiliated to the R&A take part. The ongoing event has a field of 120 players from 70 countries.
The R&A Junior Open is a precursor to The Open Championship which takes place at the Royal Troon. The Open is golf’s original championship and this year’s event comes to an end on Sunday, having begun on the 14th.
Played since 1860 on iconic links golf courses, it is the sport’s most international major championship with qualifying events on every continent. For one week each year, the pursuit of the famous Claret Jug trophy is the focus of the sporting world, followed globally by millions of fans.
