AGAMA coach Paul “Popopo” Chimalinzeni has called upon his charges to keep their eyes on the ball in the final third of the Northern Region Soccer League race after posting a statement win over leaders N’ombeyawora on Sunday.

The Mt Darwin club’s 1-0 victory ensured they didn’t only complete a double over their rivals but moved them to within a point of the Mabvuku team’s 63 point tally after 28 games.

Actually, the win that mirrored the reverse tie at Pfura narrowed down the NRSL into a two-horse race especially after both Black Rhinos and Golden Eagles fell far off the pace with defeats at the weekend.

Both on 49 points, Eagles and Rhinos will need to be extraordinarily consistent in the final 10 games of the term to stand any chance of getting promoted.

While his main concern is N’ombeyawora, Chimalinzeni has refused to rule out both Golden Eagles and Chauya Chipembere.

“I think for now, we should keep the focus on ourselves,” he said.

“Nothing should concern us at this moment than posting positive results of our own.

“We have been erratic, quite often so. We sort of lost the plot in the past two, three weeks but I am happy we are now back on track.

“N’ombeyawora is a good team and to come here in Harare and get the full points on board says a lot about our pedigree as a team.”

He added:

“It’s that same pedigree that we should now show going into last 10 games of the season.

“It’s a tough final third of the season in which we just have to completely focus and see what comes out of the last 10 games.

“It’s going to be tough because there is still a lot of football to be played.

“We should not rely on others.

“We just need to play well, get the results on board and see what follows.”

N’ombeyawora coach Nesbert “Yabo” Saruchera said:

“Yes it’s almost a two-horse race now.

“We needed to win against Agama to have breathing space but we failed ourselves.

“However we still hold the advantage and let’s see what happens.”
